Reducing Fire Risk: Las Cruces Urges Residents To Remove Dead Vegetation

 

The combination of freezing temperatures over the winter and dry conditions during the spring may have destroyed vegetation surrounding our homes, and that could be the material needed to fuel a fire.

 

The Las Cruces Fire Department encourages residents to remove dead plant material from their yards as dry grasses, weeds, chaparral and other flammable landscaping surrounding homes and outbuildings can pose a significant fire danger.

Charges Filed In Animal Hoarding Case

 

  Investigators with the Doña Ana County Sheriff Department have filed 71 charges against a man accused of hoarding more than two dozen dogs and 13 birds on his property off Fairacres Road.  

Complaints from neighbors about excessive noise and a foul odor prompted an investigation by the department’s Animal Cruelty Task Force, which found 25 dogs and as many as 100 chickens and ducks at the home of Jack Catlan, 60.

Catlan was arrested and charged Thursday.

Last year, California-based preacher Harold Camping announced that the beginning of the end of the world would take place on May 21, 2011. The date passed by with no apparent rapture, and Camping became the butt of many late-night talk show jokes.

Lost Bike Found After 41 Years; Then, The Story Gets Weird

In 1970 a young girl lost her banana-seat bike. Lisa Brown was riding it across a rickety bridge in Cape Cod, Mass., when she and the bike tumbled into a little river. The bike sank into the muck and was gone.
