3 NM Lawmakers Forgo Town Halls

By KRWG News

New Mexico – ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRWG) This comes at a time when voters have begun taking to town hall meetings to express their frustration and anger with Congress' handling of the debt debate.

Sens. Tom Udall and Jeff Bingaman as well as Congressman Martin Heinrich -- all Democrats -- say they are forgoing town hall meetings this summer.

Heinrich is running to replace the retiring Bingaman. Heinrich and Udall say they are instead focused on the economy and jobs.

By contrast, Republican congressman Steve Pearce is planning more than a dozen town hall meetings with constituents.

Democratic congressman Ben Ray Lujan also is planning "Conversations with Ben Ray" across the northern New Mexico district throughout August.
