Alamogordo City Council Considering Travel Approval Rule

City officials in Alamogordo will have to get commission approval prior to traveling if an ordinance passes for the second time this week.

The city commission is scheduled to meet Tuesday night to discuss the matter.

The commission approved an ordinance in September that will require the mayor, commissioners and other members of city commissions and boards to seek prior approval if they want to travel to other states.

District 4 Commissioner Josh Rardin recently voted against $2,900 for Alamogordo Mayor Susie Galea to travel to Washington, D.C., to attend a conference this month.

Rardin says he wanted to see the policy changed to require commission approval for travel expenses.

Galea has defended her travel, saying it's for military relations and economic development.
