An Alamogordo woman is facing charges after her two dogs allegedly mauled another dog to death. 37-year-old Desiree Romeyn is facing two fourth-degree felonies under New Mexico's Dangerous Dog Act.
According to court documents, Romeyn is being held in on bond in an Otero County jail.
Alamogordo police say an animal control officer responded to reports Wednesday that Romeyn's two pitbulls had escaped her yard.
The officer secured both dogs but found a third pitbull belonging to someone else. That dog had multiple lacerations and punctures.
The animal died later that day.
Police say Romeyn's dogs had injured animals in two previous incidents in 2010 and last year.
She is also facing charges of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
