Alamogordo Women Sentenced In Drug Fraud

Two Alamogordo women have been sentenced to prison for conspiracy to fraudulently obtain prescription drugs.

Prosecutors say 57-year-old Sharon Carter was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison followed by two years of supervised release.

Also sentenced Wednesday in federal court in Las Cruces was 52-year-old Connie Coble, who received a 36-day term of imprisonment followed by three years of supervised release.

Carter and Coble were charged in a 66-count indictment six months ago.

Carter allegedly posed as a doctor and called in prescriptions for non-existent people in Dona Ana and Otero counties last year.

She and Coble then picked up the fraudulent prescriptions for the painkiller Hydrocodone at retail pharmacies.

Prosecutors say Carter and her accomplices passed more than 180 fraudulent prescriptions and unlawfully obtained nearly 18,500 pills.
