Albuqueque Opens Office Of Diversity And Human Rights

Albuquerque Mayor Richard Berry has named Gabe Campos as the director of the city's Office of Diversity and Human Rights.

Berry made the announcement Saturday during a discussion aimed at increasing understanding and awareness about mental illness. Berry says the office could assist those living with mental health issues.

Campos earned his law degree from the University of Wisconsin and worked with New Mexico Legal Aid for about 10 years.

Throughout his career, he has volunteered to serve on the boards of various social services agencies, especially those focusing on assistance to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking or to those with mental health concerns.

Campos says he wants the office to be an advocate for inclusion and a defender for anyone experiencing exclusion.

The office was created in May.
