Albuquerque Hires New Spokesperson In Wake Of Outrage Over Police Conduct

A retired court spokeswoman has been hired for a similar position with the Albuquerque Police Department as it works through changes being made as a result of a critical Department of Justice report.

Police Chief Gordon Eden says retired Bernalillo Country Metropolitan Court Public Information Officer Janet Blair started Monday as the department's communications and community outreach director.

Eden says Blair will be responsible for crafting communications strategies to ensure transparency and the steady of flow of information as the department implements changes resulting from the federal report.

The federal report harshly assessed the Police Department's use of force and officers' interaction with people struggling with mental illnesses.
