Albuquerque Police To Use Buddy System Following Shootings

The Albuquerque Police Department is returning to the buddy system after officers were ambushed while responding to a suspicious person call in Louisiana.

Chief Gordon Eden is ordering officers to take extra precautions, including responding to calls in pairs. The department was taking the precaution after five police officers were killed and seven injured in Dallas on July 7th, but Eden had recently stopped the practice.

After Sunday's shooting in Baton Rouge, he says officers will be returning to the buddy system for the time being. Eden is also reminding officers to be aware of their surroundings as they respond to calls.
