BLM Approves Dripping Springs Road and Baylor Canyon Road Improvement Project

Dripping Springs Road near Las Cruces

Las Cruces, NM – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Las Cruces District is announcing that the Dripping Springs Road and Baylor Canyon Road Improvement Project has been approved by the BLM District Manager.  The decision has been made to select Alternative B, as presented in the Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Project.  Under Alternative B, 2.5 miles of Dripping Springs Road will be improved and paved, and 2.4 miles of Baylor Canyon Road will be improved and graveled.  In some areas the roads will be re-aligned.  The Project will enhance safety, improve access to public land, and reduce maintenance costs.

Doña Ana County submitted two separate applications to upgrade and realign portions of Dripping Springs Road and Baylor Canyon Road, located east of Las Cruces, New Mexico.  The roads would be constructed for all-weather/year-round use.  Doña Ana County proposed the improvements to Dripping Springs and Baylor Canyon Roads in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration Central Federal Lands Highway Division (CFLHD).  Funds administered by CFLHD, the Federal Lands Access Program, along with a local match, provide the support necessary for the road improvements.

The Decision Record, Finding of No Significant Impact, and Final EA are available for review on the Las Cruces District Office website at: http://www.blm.gov/nm/lascruces.

Parties affected by this decision, as described in the Decision Record, have a 30-day appeal period to request review of this decision.  The 30-day appeal period runs July 31, 2015, through August 31, 2015.  Complete instructions for filing an appeal are described in the Decision Record.
