The body found today in an irrigation canal off south Valley Drive has been identified as that of a Las Cruces man who had not been seen by his family in a couple of days.
At about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, a passerby called police shortly after he noticed a body in the irrigation canal that runs parallel and south of Amador Avenue, between south Valley Drive and Pioneer Place.
As police conducted their investigation, the family of a 60-year-old man arrived on scene and told detectives that their relative walked away from his Las Cruces home a couple of days ago and had not been seen since.
Investigators confirmed the body was that of their relative.
Investigators are continuing their investigation but, at this time, no foul play is suspected in the man’s death.
The body will be sent to the New Mexico medical investigator’s office for autopsy to determine the cause of death.
