The body the of a missing elderly man found Thursday

By KRWG News

Las Cruces, NM – The body of Brayton Smoot, missing since June third, was found Thursday in an undeveloped area of Las Cruces.

The 77 year old man, who suffered from Alzheimer's disease, disappeared from his home at the Golden Mesa Retirement Community.

In hopes of finding him, Smoot's family had offered a five thousand dollar reward. Yesterday evening, family members were given the news of his death, after a fifteen year old girl spotted the man's body lying beneath a bush.

According to police detectives, Smoot was found in an undeveloped area of the city, near the south fork of the Las Cruces arroyo.

Smoot's body will be taken to the Medical Investigator's Office in Albuquerque for an autopsy. Police officers do not suspect foul play was a factor in Smoot's death.
