The Las Cruces-based Southwest Environmental Center took a tour of the new border wall construction near Santa Teresa, New Mexico this week.
Construction is occurring at both ends of 20+ miles where vehicle barriers stand.
About one mile has been completed on the western end so far.
The government is paying tens of millions of dollars for an out-of-state contractor to complete the work.
And money is also being spent for security. A photo of a masked guard with a semi-automatic rifle was taken near the site.
The guard said he works for an Ohio company called Safety and Security Solutions.
A protest is planned for June 2. Here is the informaton on that event:

From Interstate 10, exit on TX Highway-178 towards the Santa Teresa Border Crossing. Continue on TX-178 for 11.3 miles as it crosses into New Mexico and becomes NM Highway-136. Before you approach the border crossing, turn right on Binational Ave and continue for 0.6 miles. Then turn left on Ave Casas Grandes and continue for 0.4 miles. Park at the cul-de-sac near the border wall.
