Silver City – Firefighters completed lighting operations Saturday on the Signal Peak North prescribed fire project about 12 miles northeast of Silver City.
The U.S. Forest Service announced Saturday evening that all operations are normal on the project.
Some active flames may be visible from New Mexico State Highway 15 or the Meadow Creek Road near Signal Peak.
Smoke was visible over the project area Saturday afternoon.
An additional 300 acres were treated Saturday. In all, 600 acres have been treated as crews rid the area of trees and brush that can ignite and cause a catastrophic wildfire.
Firefighters plan to continue prescribed fire activities Sunday.
