Cancer Aid Resource & Education

  January 9, 2014 – Las Cruces, NM - On this edition of PUENTES, Emily Guerra bridges the community Cancer Aid Resource & Education, Inc. (CARE) President and Executive Director, Yolanda “Yoli” Diaz. CARE is a non-profit organization established in 2013 to provide assistance and services at no cost to the Doña Ana County community who are receiving treatment for any type of cancer, especially cancer patients, children and adults, by improving their quality of life. Last year CARE helped seventy-five families in the Las Cruces area with their fiscal sponsor, Community Action Agency of Southern New Mexico (CAASNM). CARE is managed by an all-volunteer group and receives no city, county, state or federal government funding.

The month of February has been proclaimed “All Types of Cancer Awareness Month” in Doña Ana County, as well as “Lavender Month” (lavender represents all cancers); and “National Cancer Prevention Month.” CARE will hold their 2015 Kickoff event on Saturday, February 7th, at 9 a.m. with “Race for Care” a 5K Run/Walk starting on the plaza in Mesilla. The Lavender Ball will be held on Saturday, February 28th, at 5 p.m. at Hotel Encanto in Las Cruces. To volunteer and find more information, visit CARE’s website at www.carelascruces.org.
