A southeastern New Mexico man could face a lengthy prison term after pleading guilty to violating federal laws on firearms and drug trafficking.

The U.S. Attorney's Office says 29-year-old Jacob J. Loredo of Carlsbad pleaded guilty Tuesday in federal court in Las Cruces to charges of possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The office says Loredo was arrested by the Pecos Valley Drug Task Force during a Feb. 19 raid and that he'd previously been convicted of possession of cocaine.

According to the office, Loredo faces between 5 and 40 years in prison when he's sentenced under a plea agreement.
