Carlsbad School CEO On Leave After Shocking Allegations

The CEO of a Carlsbad school has been put on leave while she is investigated for ethical and possibly criminal allegations.

The Council of Trustees for Jefferson Montessori Academy voted Thursday night to have CEO Cynthia Holguin go on administrative leave.

Holguin is accused of giving false student counts to the New Mexico Public Education Department and threatening staff and faculty.

The council also elected to hire an outside investigator instead of forming an investigative committee that would include a teacher.

Holguin has been CEO of the K-12 school for eight years.

School principal Julie Jones was also placed on leave.

Interim Principal Eileen Montoya will oversee the school.
