Cat Lost For Five Months Found In New Mexico

A cat lost for five months during a family move from Oregon to Louisiana has been found in New Mexico.

The cat, Meeko, was found by Gallup resident Helen Morales outside her yard.

Kenneth Harris, Meeko's owner, says the family lost the cat after making an emergency stop on the side of Interstate 40 on the border of Arizona and New Mexico. He says when his wife and 5-year-old son got out of the car, Meeko jumped out, too.

Harris says the family looked for the cat for 10 to 15 minutes then decided to leave.

Morales says she located the cat's owner by calling the number on the cat's tags.

Harris says he thought he'd never see the cat again.
