A Chinese man has been sentenced to more than three years in federal prison after being convicted on fraud, immigration and witness-tampering charges in New Mexico.

Federal prosecutors say 57-year-old Hai Gan received a 41-month prison sentence Thursday and he will be deported after he completes it.

Gan was convicted in February.

He lived in Texas and was ordered to forfeit his interests in four houses — including two in Albuquerque — used to facilitate his criminal activity and about $27,000.

Gan was arrested in May 2011 at U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint on Interstate 25 north of Dona Ana County.

He was indicted on 51 counts of fraud in connection with identification documents, eight counts of transporting illegal immigrants, three counts of money laundering and two counts of witness-tampering.
