Church-Water Two Way Conversion Progress Moves Forward In Las Cruces

The Church-Water streets two-way conversion is continuing in Downtown Las Cruces. The project is in Zone 1, in the south part of Downtown. Water Street and Church Street between Amador and Bowman avenues are complete. The section on Main Street between Amador and Bowman should be complete by the end of next week, when the project will move to Main Street between Amador and Lohman avenue. This section will be closed during construction, which was not in the original plan, but it will shorten the time frame of work by approximately two weeks.

The project is committed to having minimal impact on business Downtown, so there are always been at least two streets accessing Downtown. The project is on budget and on time, having recently hit the 20% completed milestone. Zone 1 is still projected to be complete by Jan. 31, 2018 so that the Amador Project can open in spring of 2018.

The City has been communicating with stakeholders – working with merchants, residents, the Farmer’s Market, and other affected parties, and has been holding regular open houses. The next open house will be 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, at the Museum of Nature and Science, 411 N. Main St. The public is encouraged to attend and ask questions.

Information is always available on the home page at las-cruces.org by clicking on Major Roadway Projects, by e-mail at downtown@las-cruces.org or by calling 575/528-3477.

The City of Las Cruces thanks motorists for their patience as Downtown becomes a place to drive to, not through - to shop, eat, visit & explore!
