Clinton Supporters Watch Debate In Las Cruces

Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton met in their first Presidential campaign Monday, and KRWG was at debate watch parties to get local reactions from people watching the debate, Samantha Sonner was at Hillary Clinton’s campaign headquarters in Las Cruces.

Hillary Clinton’s supporters in Las Cruces thought she gave a strong performance at the first debate.

“I think she did fantastic,” Tammara Anderton said. “I thought she was very composed, very well prepared, and very authentic.”

“I thought it was a very good debate,” Pauline Milnor said. “I thought Hillary Clinton did a very good job, and Donald Trump basically performed as expected.”

“I think that Secretary Clinton knocked it out of the park tonight,” Emerson Morrow said. “She laid out a clear plan and a vision for America that I think is really going to benefit young people especially, like me, and Donald Trump laid out a vision for America that’s kind of disastrous and that’s not the America that I know and love and I think that Secretary Clinton really highlighted that tonight.”

Clinton’s supporters felt she did a good job standing up to Donald Trump and calling him out.

“She had a couple of moments that were really funny,” Emerson Morrow said. “She’s incredibly witty, and so I think those moments where she really called out Donald Trump for some of the nonsense and the divisive rhetoric he’s been spewing, I think that those did enough to really show that she cares about what the average voter is thinking.”

“I was a little bit surprised she hit him right in the beginning,” Pauline Milnor said. “I assumed that she would just stick to her policy, I thought she did a very good job and pushed at him when she needed, but wasn’t overly ugly about it, but truthful.”

“I think she did a much better job of it than he did,” Tammara Anderton said. “And in fact was very composed, quite civilized, very articulate and reasonable.”

Emerson Morrow, a student at NMSU says many of his friends were watching the debate tonight, and he thinks Clinton’s debate performance could get them to the polls.

“I think that anyone that tuned in to the debate tonight is going to agree that Secretary Clinton delivered an impressive performance,” Emerson said. “So I think that just as long as they took the time to really tune in that it will be enough to get them to the polls.”
