Columbus, NM – Columbus Mayor Eddie Espinoza says Police Chief Angelo Vega has been reinstated to head the southern New Mexico village's police department.
Vega had been on administrative leave since Nov. 22 at Espinoza's direction.
Espinoza says Columbus trustees reinstated Vega while Espinoza was on a trip to Albuquerque.
Trustee William "Bud" Canfield says the vote to return Vega to duty was 4-0.
He says the trustees informed the mayor of their plans.
Canfield says it had been a long time since Vega had been placed on leave and no action had been taken against him, so the trustees reinstated him.
Vega was reinstated effective Monday.
