Community Resource Expo To Help Las Cruces Community College Students

Las Cruces -- The Center for Career and Student Success will sponsor a Community Resource Expo to assist NMSU-Doña Ana (DACC) students succeed. At the Expo students can communicate directly with agencies that provide services that can make a difference in their lives.

The Expo will take place on Wednesday, February 17, in the commons area of the Student Resources building on the East Mesa Campus from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Rosa De La Torre Burmeister is the Director of CCSS. She is excited about the interaction between students and agencies. “This is a great opportunity for our students to find out about the many services in the community that are designed to help them succeed,” she said. “At the same time, agencies can inform DACC students, faculty and staff about their programs.”

CCSS is the result of a Kellogg Foundation grant to help students finish their coursework for a degree and find a career. Students experiencing difficulties in finances and personal barriers are referred to services in the community that can meet their needs. The CCSS is open to all DACC full or part-time students.

The Center encompasses three programs for students.

·       The “Help4Students” program assists students to realize their full potential by connecting them to resources in the community.

·       The “Community INN” invites agencies to spend time on campus to communicate their services to students.

·       The “Job Squad” helps students explore careers and plan for the future. The program also provides workshops on how to apply for jobs, soft skills training and holds job fairs throughout Doña Ana County

If your agency would benefit by being part of the Expo or part of the Community INN program, contact CCSS at help4students@nmsu.edu or 575-527-7538.
