Construction To Begin Soon On Wind Farm

By KRWG News

Deming – An official says construction is expected to begin in the next two weeks on 28 wind turbines in southern New Mexico's Luna County.

A project manager with Element Power, John Knight, says the wind farm on the Nutt grasslands should be in operation by July.

Element Power is the parent company of the Macho Springs Project.

Each turbine will be capable of generating up to 1.8 megawatts.

Construction will be done in phases.

The first phase will include earthwork to prepare for the 430-foot tall turbines. The second will include work on the foundations and putting up the turbines.

Construction is expected to last about six months.

Knight says the wind generators will offset about 35,000 tons of carbon dioxide being released into the atmosphere.
