Court Hearings Postponed In Officer's Shooting

Court appearances for a man charged in the shooting of a Navajo Nation police officer have been postponed until his medical condition improves.

Raymond Herder faces federal charges of assault with intent to commit murder and discharging a firearm in a violent crime. Authorities say he shot Officer Joseph Gregg in the face on Oct. 11 with a shotgun.

Gregg opened fire with his service weapon, striking Herder in the jaw at a home in Kaibeto. Court documents say Herder remains hospitalized in Phoenix where he has lapsed in and out of consciousness.

Herder had been scheduled for an initial appearance and arraignment Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Phoenix. His attorney, Dave Eisenberg, says those hearings will be rescheduled when Herder is able to understand the proceedings.
