Court Ruling Allows Suits By Former State Workers To Proceed

An appellate court ruling allows two lawsuits challenging firings of former employees of the New Mexico Secretary of State's office to proceed toward trial.

The Santa Fe New Mexican reports that the state Court of Appeals this week overturned a District Court judge's dismissal of one case and upholds a different judge's refusal to dismiss the other case.

Both cases stem from the single term of former Secretary of State Mary Herrera, who left office after losing her 2010 re-election bid.

The lawsuits allege retaliation against former workers who talked to the FBI.
