DASO: Nothing Criminal In Fatal Industrial Accident

Dona Ana County Sheriff

An explosion that killed a 30-year-old man over the weekend has been ruled accidental, according to Doña Ana County Sheriff’s detectives who were called to the scene to investigate.

Just after 12 p.m. on Saturday, sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the 6300 block of Weisner Road. A shop owner had called 911 after an employee was reportedly injured while attempting to inflate an oversized tire. According to the shop owner, Joseph Suder had been working on some fabricated rims, each of which weighed approximately 400 pounds. Suder was reportedly using ether to mount a tire onto the rim when the explosion happened.

Suder was pronounced dead at the scene. At the request of the Office of the Medical Examiner, Suder’s body was taken to Albuquerque for autopsy.
