KRWG News – SANTA FE, N.M. (KRWG) Gov. Susana Martinez's administration is implementing a program to help physicians and other medical professionals detect potential investment scams against the elderly.
The Regulation and Licensing Department is working with medical professionals to set up the program.
Agency Superintendent J. Dee Dennis Jr. said medical personnel will be taught the warning signs indicating an elderly person is at risk of becoming a victim of financial fraud. The elderly person will be referred to state securities regulators or a government agency providing protective services for the elderly.
Starting this fall, physicians will be trained as part of their continuing medical education. The program will be expanded to nurses, hospitals and other medical providers, who often have a trusting relationship with their elderly patients.
