An Anthony, N.M. man was arrested early Sunday morning for allegedly stealing a vehicle from a party and then attempting to drive away while he was reportedly intoxicated.
Just after midnight, Doña Ana County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the 900 block of Starlight Lane in Anthony after a man reported that Edgar Gutierrez, 31, walked up to his residence and got into a parked vehicle.
The victim told investigators he was having a party at his home, and was listening to music from his maroon Mercury. He said he did not know Gutierrez, who reportedly entered the driver’s side of the car and began to drive away.
The victim then reportedly got into the vehicle to try and detain Gutierrez. According to arrest paperwork, Gutierrez attempted to bribe the victim to not call police.
After deputies arrived, they found Gutierrez still in the driver’s seat of the Mercury, which was parked in the middle of the road.
Gutierrez, who is currently on probation, was arrested and charged with unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, bribery of a witness, aggravated DWI and driving on a suspended license.
He was transported to the Doña Ana County Detention Center where he is being held without bond.
