Duran Chooses Otero County Official As Deputy

By KRWG News

New Mexico – Secretary of State-elect Dianna Duran is already busy having meetings, taking calls from county clerks and poring over resumes as she builds a team to take on the responsibilities of New Mexico's top elections official.

Duran said Friday she has selected Otero County chief deputy clerk Mary Quintana to serve as her deputy secretary of state.

Duran has yet to name who will be in charge of the state's bureau of elections, but she expects to make an announcement soon.

She says that position is also critical and the person must be knowledgeable about the election code and the state constitution, and must be able to work with county clerks and the Legislature.

Duran, a Republican, handily defeated incumbent Mary Herrera on Tuesday night. Unofficial returns showed Duran with nearly 58 percent of the vote.
