El Paso Brass Performing In KRWG Benefit Concert

Enjoy an evening of holiday favorites and seasonal delights at the KRWG benefit concert featuring the El Paso Brass at the Rio Grande Theatre, 211 N. Main Street in Las Cruces, at 7 p.m. Thursday, December 8.

“The concert will feature a number of holiday favorites spanning a wide range of music history from the early baroque to contemporary compositions, jazz and other special arrangements,” Jim Shearer, tuba player with the El Paso Brass and distinguished professor at NMSU, said. “New works for this year’s annual holiday tradition include a selection of rarely heard Christmas carols from England, and new jazz and Latin holiday arrangements by Austin, Texas, composer and arranger Gary Slechta.”

Tickets may be purchased online at riograndetheatre.com; the Rio Grande Theatre box office in downtown Las Cruces; the KRWG offices in Milton Hall on the NMSU campus by calling 575-646-2222; and the Cutter Gallery, on the corner of University and El Paseo. Adult tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door, while tickets for students/children 6-18 are $7.50 in advance and $10 at the door, under 6 are free.

In addition to Shearer, members of the El Paso Brass are: Sam Trimble, founder of the group, professor of trumpet and director of jazz ensembles at UTEP, and principal trumpet of the El Paso Symphony Orchestra; Kenneth Capshaw, trumpet player, music store owner and 30-year veteran of the El Paso Symphony Orchestra; Richard Lambrecht, principal horn in the El Paso Symphony for 40 seasons; and Frank Otero, a music educator for more than 20 years.
