El Paso Coalition Fights Against Arena Location In Historic Area; Public Meetings Planned

The Coalition to save the Union Plaza district will be collecting signatures at the City's Open House Meetings on the Arena Project. The public meetings are sponsored by the city to provide information to taxpayers on the controversial 2012 Bond Project. Their aim is to convince taxpayers that the arena should go in Barrio Duranguito/Union Plaza. Our petition seeks to designate the Union Plaza District as a historic district thereby protecting it from demolition and from the construction of the arena on this site.

If El Pasoans are opposed to the arena or would prefer that it be located in another part of the city, we invite them to come to the meeting sites and sign our petition. We are seeking registered voters who voted in the May 2013 mayoral election where Oscar Leeser and Steve Ortega ran. The City of El Paso has informed us that the only people who can sign the petition are those who voted in this election.

For more information on other locations to sign the petition or to volunteer with this effort please contact Jose or Bruce at 915-302-0276 orpds@pasodelsur.org attention: “petition.”
