Las Cruces Arts Association’s exhibit “Patterns of Spring” offers both abstract and realistic representations of spring. Las Cruces Arts Association artists work in a variety of styles and media, including oils, acrylics, pastels, watercolor, fabric arts, graphic media, gourds, mosaics and fused glass. Many artists will show their works at this show, including Judy Licht, Jack Le Sage, Penny Duncklee, and Dennis Lujan.

Every 2nd Wednesday: Linda Gallegos Flamenco presents “Tierra Flamenca”
This event is free and open to the public. Linda Gallegos Flamenco, one of the Southwest’s leading Flamenco troupes, performs “Tierra Flamenca” featuring two dancers, guitar, percussion, and the song. The show brings percussive footwork, swirling skirts, and the castanets that are synonymous with the passionate and fiery gypsy art form. Gallegos’ students will also perform a couple of colorful pieces.

Santa Fe Opera presents “Avastar”
This event is free and open to the public. The Santa Fe Opera Spring Tour Program will present “Avastar,” an original work written especially for the tour by Kirk Pavitt, the opera’s spring tour music director, and stage director Kathleen Clawson, to engage students of all ages in the world of opera using contemporary themes.
“Avastar,” a 35-minute piece, is an original story in word and song which peers into the lives of Sara and Josh, who in the virtual world, as contestants Estrella and Supernova, have entered an on-line singing contest. Who will win the competition? And in doing so will they lose out on love? The program is free and open to the public. The Mesilla Valley Chorale, directed by Nancy Ritchey, presents “Dreamin’.” Celebrate this Mother’s Day Sunday with a beautiful choral program featuring “You Raise Me Up,” Jackie Evancho’s “Dream With Me” and many favorites such as “Mr. Sandman” and “Get Happy.”
The Mesilla Valley Chorale is an exciting venue for experienced singers who share a passion for performing choral music. Known for its excellence and diverse programs, this community chorale features four-part music from classical to pops.

Borderlands Ballet presents Café Noir
“Café Noir” is a newly commissioned and choreographed contemporary ballet based on classic film noir archetypes. This performance also features the Las Cruces School of Dance and Music. Borderlands Ballet is a non-profit organization located in southern New Mexico. Their mission is to share the beauty of dance with the broadest possible audience within the borderland community and beyond. This mission is achieved through the interrelated goals of performance, education, and humanitarian outreach.

Every month the Doña Ana Arts Council welcomes local artists to exhibit in the El Paso Electric Gallery in the lobby of the Rio Grande Theatre. Regular exhibit hours are 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. For more information, or to book an exhibit, call the Arts Council offices during regular working hours.
