  • Museums and Cultural Center: The city of Las Cruces Museum System consists of the Branigan Cultural Center, the Las Cruces Museum of Art, the Las Cruces Museum of Nature & science and the Las Cruces Railroad Museum Free Admission

o   Wednesday, Aug. 17 at 2 p.m., BCC Book Club – join us for a discussion of “The Indian Southwest, 1580 to 1830” by Gary Clayton Anderson.
o   “Plastics Unwrapped.” An exhibit that explores how material culture was rapidly changed by plastics. Through Aug. 20.

o   “Painted Parallels” featuring the artwork of Dr. Sohini Dhar and Sudeshna Sengupta. The exhibit is comprised of paintings, drawings textiles and prints by Dhar & Sengupta and showcases the developments of two separate bodies of work by these artists who share common creative roots. The exhibit runs thru Aug. 20.

·         Museum of Art

o   The Las Cruces Museum of Art hosts changing contemporary art exhibits, including national, international, juried, traveling and invitational exhibits. The museum runs an extensive art studio class program for all ages.

o   Contemporary Japanese Ceramics from the Gordon Brodfuehrer Collection” An engaging interdisciplinary look at contemporary Japanese Ceramics paired with nature photographs. Continues through Oct. 15.

o   Thursday, Aug. 18 at 6 p.m. - Art Salon, “The Japanese Aesthtic: Quite Beauty from Jomon to Jun” by ceramic artist Claude Smith III.

·         Saturday, Aug. 20 at 2 p.m. Studio Programs Sneak Peak featuring demonstrations and on-site registration for fall session programs.

·         Museum of Nature & Science

o   Saturday, Aug. 20 at 10 a.m. Family Science Saturday presents Mechanical Toys, “Automata.”

o   Saturday, Aug. 20 at 11 a.m. “SNAP” - Merging artistic creativity with Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics – “Density”

o   Saturday, Aug. 20 at 11:30 a.m. Animal Encounters – “Mammals.” This program is free and no registration is required.

o   Thursday Aug. 18 at 9 a.m. Pre-K Program for kids ages 3-5 – Dinosaur Train – Dinosaurs A to Z.

o   Tuesday, Aug. 16 at 6:30 p.m. in the boardroom – Branigan Book club – “The boys in the boat: Nine Americans and Their Epic Quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics” by Daniel Brown.

o   Wednesday, Aug. 17 at 2 p.m. in the Boardroom – Washi Tape Craft. A Japanese decorative tape that comes in a multitude of patterns and colors. Learn some of the creative things you can do with Washi Tape and create something to take home.

o   Thursday, Aug. 18 at 2 p.m. in the Boardroom – Pulitzer Prize book club – “The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao” by Junot Diaz
