Ex-New Mexico Corrections Officer Pleads Guilty To Sex Abuse

A former tribal corrections officer in New Mexico has pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a female inmate last year and violating her civil rights.

Prosecutors say 22-year-old Trevor Hunt, of Paguate, entered his plea Thursday in federal court in Albuquerque.

They say Hunt pleaded guilty to one count of sexual abuse of a ward and one count of violating the civil rights of the woman.

Authorities say Hunt accompanied the victim to the laundry room of the Pueblo of Laguna's Detention Facility and sexually assaulted her on May 23, 2015.

Hunt was ordered to surrender to the U.S. Marshals Service on Monday.

Prosecutors say Hunt will be detained pending his sentencing hearing, which has yet to be scheduled.
