Exhibits By NMSU Students Debut Friday In Las Cruces

New Mexico State University’s public history students have curated “Fabian Garcia: Cultivating Character” and “The Branigan Building: Then and Now,” two new exhibits opening Friday at the Branigan Cultrual Center, 501 North Downtown Mall, Las Cruces.

The students were enrolled in Museums of North America, a new course taught by Assistant Professor Peter Kopp.

“The goal of the class is to provide students with a theoretical background for study and obtain hands-on experience,” he said. “We worked toward researching and designing two of our own exhibits in a partnership with the Branigan Cultural Center. I’m tremendously proud of our students for both their commitment to doing good research and thinking creatively about how to exhibit local history and culture.”

The opening reception will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5. “The Branigan Building” will be up for two years as a permanent part of the cultural center. “Fabian Garcia” will run through January 2015.
