FBI Arrests Former El Paso County Assistant DA

Authorities say a former West Texas prosecutor has been arrested and accused of taking bribes in return for dismissing pending criminal cases.

An indictment unsealed Tuesday accuses Antonio Reyes accepted bribes by text-messages while working as an assistant El Paso County district attorney.

Reyes had worked in District Attorney Jaime Esparza's office for nine months. In a statement, Esparza said that his office had asked the FBI to investigate.

Reyes is charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and deprivation of honest services. If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in federal prison.
