Feds Award Grants To Expand NM Healthcare

The federal government has awarded more than $2.4 million in grants to New Mexico health centers to expand access to care.

U.S. Health and Human Services announced the grants this week. In all, the agency awarded about $150 million to health centers across the nation.

In New Mexico, the money will support three new community health center sites that will serve an estimated 9,100 additional New Mexicans.

Federal health officials say community health centers in New Mexico served more than 284,000 patients last year. More than two-fifths of them were uninsured.

Officials say the new health centers will be able to link individuals to care through outreach and enrollment.
