FEMA Approves Grant To Help With Fire

By KRWG News

SANTA FE, N.M. – The Federal Emergency Management Agency has approved a grant to help cover the costs of fighting a fire near Ruidoso Downs that has destroyed homes and outbuildings.

The fire that broke out Sunday afternoon quickly spread due to gusty winds, low humidity and extremely dry conditions in the Ruidoso area of southern New Mexico.

State Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management Secretary Michael Duvall announced the FEMA grant.

Duvall says at least 27 fires were reported over the weekend due to the dry and windy conditions.
