New Mexico – A new report on international education says New Mexico colleges and universities have seen a 6 percent drop in foreign students.
The Albuquerque Journal reports (http://bit.ly/vpATdt) that the nonprofit group Institute of International Education says the number of foreign students at New Mexico schools declined by about 175 this year to 2,724.
The report says New Mexico State University saw international enrollments drop by nearly 140 students, representing the majority of the state's net decline. NMSU this year has 1,162 international students.
According to the data, the University of New Mexico reported a small increase with at least 1,013 international students enrolled.
Nationwide, international student enrollments increased about 5 percent.
The study says New Mexico is ranked 41st in the nation for international student enrollments.
