A Travis County prosecutor who was fired after making racial comments to a jury could receive $270,000 to settle his wrongful termination lawsuit.
Travis County commissioners approved allocating the funds for Steve Brand, pending a final settlement. The money would come from the risk management fund.
The assistant district attorney lost his job last June. Brand's dismissal came a month after his comments dismissing a prospective juror who was a member of the NAACP, comparing the juror's membership to white supremacy.
District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg has said the comments were racially insensitive.
The tentative $270,000 settlement could be finalized in early 2015 for Brand, who won't return to the district attorney's office.
His attorney declined comment Tuesday.
