Flying Star Files For Chapter 11

An Albuquerque-based restaurant chain has closed some of its locations and is filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.  The owners of Flying Star Cafe closed restaurants in Bernalillo and Santa Fe on Friday amid an outstanding debt of more than $6 million.

Husband and wife Jean and Mark Bernstein own the 28-year-old company.

Jean Bernstein says between 40 and 45 jobs have been lost due to the closures. But some of those employees will be transferred to another location.

Flying Star will continue operating as a debtor in possession of its business under a Chapter 11 business reorganization.

The company will also still operate a food production business and eight Satellite Coffee shops in Albuquerque.
