Former El Paso Prosector Sentenced For Bribery

A former West Texas prosecutor who admitted taking bribes in return for dismissing pending criminal cases has been sentenced to almost three years in federal prison.

An FBI statement says former El Paso County Assistant District Attorney Antonio Reyes was sentenced Thursday to 33 months in prison. He could have been sentenced to up to 20 years in federal prison.

Reyes had pleaded guilty on April 21 to single counts of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and deprivation of honest services.

Reyes had worked in District Attorney Jaime (HYE'-may) Esparza's office for nine months before he was charged last November.
