Deming – A former Luna County commissioner has pleaded not guilty to felony charges stemming from her tenure on the commission.
Becky Allen Gilmore, who resigned as a commissioner last July, entered her pleas last week to charges of unlawful interest in a public contract and and embezzlement.
A magistrate last summer dismissed a similar public contract charge after Gilmore's attorney argued it was filed under the wrong statute.
The district attorney refiled the case in state district court and took it to the grand jury.
The charge stems from Gilmore's receiving a $4,027 fee as a buyer's agent in the county's purchase of land to expand a health clinic.
Gilmore has called it a normal real estate transaction. The state contends she was not authorized as a buyer's agent.
