Free Bus Fares In Las Cruces The Week Of June 18

City of Las Cruces RoadRUNNER Transit will join with other public transportation systems nationwide to participate in the 13th Annual National Dump the Pump Day on Thursday, June 21 by sponsoring Dump the Pump Fare Free Week beginning Monday, June 18 through Saturday, June 23.  In addition, the public can enter to win 1-day, 7-Day, or 30-day transit passes. Entry forms will be available during Fare Free Week in the lobby of the Mesilla Valley Intermodal Transit Terminal (MVITT) Center located at 300 W. Lohman Avenue. Drawings will be held daily during Fare Free Week and can be used at any time.

“’Dump the Pump’ is sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) to encourage people to ride public transportation where they need to go, instead of driving a car,” said Michael Bartholomew, Transit Administrator. “It’s very doable; just takes a little extra planning.”

Started in June 2006 when gas prices were $3 per gallon, this national day emphasizes that public transportation is a convenient travel option that also helps people save money.  According to APTA, individuals in a two-person household can save an average of more than $10K annually by downsizing to one car.

Additionally, public transportation is a cornerstone of local economies in urban, suburban, and rural communities. In fact, public transportation helps to make a community economically prosperous and competitive. Every $1 invested in public transportation generates approximately $4 in economic returns, powering community growth and revitalization.
