"Girls Can!" Conference Coming To Las Cruces

Attention parents of sixth grade girls from all over Doña Ana County!  It’s time to register your daughters for this year’s Girls Can! career exploration conference on Saturday morning, March 5, at Lynn Middle School, 950 S. Walnut Street in Las Cruces.

A total of 21 exciting workshops will be offered by professional career women who will share information about their careers, as well as involve girls in a related hands-on career experience.  These include veterinary medicine, US Border Patrol, art, dentistry, medicine, nursing, costume design, biology, performing arts, engineering and many more! Each girl may select two workshops and will be assigned to a third. A valuable parents’ workshop is designed to support parents of middle-school aged girls.  Dr. Renay Scott, President of Doña Ana Community College, will welcome the girls to the event.

Brochures with registration forms are available at middle schools in Las Cruces and elementary schools in the Gadsden district. Participants need to pre-register at their school and turn in a registration form (signed by a parent or guardian) and the registration fee by the deadline established by their school. The $5 fee includes breakfast and a Girls Can! T-shirt.

Girls Can! has been sponsored by AAUW (American Association of University Women) in Las Cruces for 22 years. For more information, contact Ann McCullough GirlsCanLasCruces@gmail.com.
