Government Won't Say How Many Immigrants Have Been Released After Illegal Crossings

The Obama administration is releasing inside the U.S. some immigrants who have crossed illegally into the country from Mexico. But how many remains a mystery because the government won't say.

The Homeland Security Department last month started flying immigrants to Arizona from the Rio Grande Valley in Texas after the number of immigrants caught there overwhelmed the Border Patrol.

Immigrations and Customs Enforcement has said the immigrants are mostly families from Central America. They were flown from Texas, released in Arizona and told to report to an ICE office near where they were traveling within 15 days.

The administration will not say how many immigrants subsequently reported back after 15 days as directed. During one weekend last month, as many as 400 people were flown to Arizona.
