Deming – At least one structure has been destroyed by a grass fire southwest of Deming.
The New Mexico Forestry division says the fire broke out about 2 p.m. Sunday west of the town of Hachita and has burned about 100 acres so far. An unknown number of buildings are threatened.
The blaze is the latest to break out across the Southwest as high temperatures and fierce winds combine with dry conditions to feed wildfires.
The latest fire was caused by humans but the exact details of how it happened have not been released.
