Grower Thinks His Chiles Are Special

By KRWG News

Hatch, New Mexico – HATCH, N.M. (KRWG) This year's Hatch green chile crop may be smaller due to the drought. But grower Jim Lytle says his crop may still break a record.

Lytle says his chiles are around 15 inches long, which make them about 50 percent bigger than the average chile and two inches longer than the Hatch green chile grown by the previous record holder -- his mother.

Lytle told KOB-TV (http://bit.ly/qS46nk ) that he was planning to take his chiles to New Mexico State University to get them documented.

Lytle credits good fertilizer and a direct to root irrigation system for the massive growth.

He says his mother has a certificate from the 1970s certifying a 13-inch chile she grew as being the biggest on record.
