Health Director Resigns

The health and human services director for Dona Ana County is resigning from her post.  Silvia Sierra is set to leave her job at the end of the month.

Sierra submitted a resignation notice soon after new County Manager Julia Brown started her job in early December.

It's unclear what prompted Sierra to submit her resignation.

Sierra was hired in 2002 by former County Manager David King to head the department, which oversaw indigent hospital claims and DWI prevention activities, among other programs.

Over the years, Sierra has been involved with efforts to improve quality of life of residents in rural border communities that lack infrastructure and overseeing programs to expand access to health care in the county.
