Heinrich Says Shutdown Jeopardizes National Security

U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), a member of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, Tuesday warned that the government shutdown jeopardizes national security.

“House Republicans’ refusal to be responsible and keep the government running has serious consequences,” said Sen. Heinrich. “Approximately 72 percent of the civilian intelligence workforce has been furloughed because of the government shutdown, jeopardizing our national security and the putting the lives our men and women in uniform at risk.” The Intelligence Community is America’s first line of defense—relying on its agencies and activities to warn us of threats, to prevent terrorist attacks, and to provide information for a broad set of national security decisions.
